Common specifications

Metals are bought against a defined standard, grade and physical form rather than a generic product name.

  • Steel: grade, chemistry, mechanical properties, dimensions, tolerances and surface condition

Uses & demand centres

Steel supports buildings, infrastructure, automotive, machinery, energy and packaging. Aluminium serves transport, construction, electrical and packaging applications, while copper is fundamental to power systems, electronics, motors and industrial equipment.

Mills, smelters & fabrication facilities

The metals ecosystem includes blast furnaces, direct-reduction plants, electric-arc furnaces, casters, rolling mills, coating lines, aluminium smelters, copper refineries, rod mills, stockholders and service centres. A mill's approved capability must match the required product.

Ports & trade corridors

Raw materials often enter deep-water bulk terminals, while billets, coils, rebar, cathodes and ingots may move through break-bulk or container terminals. Common corridors connect Australian and Brazilian raw materials, Asian production hubs and major European, Middle Eastern and American demand centres.

Shipping & handling

Iron ore moves primarily as dry bulk; finished steel may move break-bulk, short-sea or containerised. Coil cradles, lashing, dry holds, weight distribution, lifting plans, rust protection and traceable bundle or heat identification require route-specific control.

Why is mill approval important?

Projects and buyers may restrict accepted mills, origins, certification systems or testing routes. Approval should be confirmed before a commercial commitment.

How are offers compared?

Align the same grade, dimensional basis, theoretical or actual weight, coating, packing, Incoterm, origin, duties, freight and delivery date.
